Windsurf

MemIndex records work from Windsurf and writes past notes into a project rule file.

Open a terminal in the project you use with Windsurf. Run:

npx memindex@latest install --ide windsurf

Complete the shared choices in Install. Restart Windsurf to load its new rules.

The installer merges MemIndex's event commands into ~/.codeium/windsurf/hooks.json. It records prompts, code changes, commands, tool results, and Cascade replies.

During installation, past notes go into .windsurf/rules/memindex-context.md inside the project if the local worker is available and has context to return. Otherwise, the file starts with a “No context yet” message. Long history is shortened to fit the rule file.

Automatic rule-file refresh is coming. To refresh the file now, keep the local worker running and rerun the installation command from that project after it has recorded notes.

The hook settings apply to your user account. The context file belongs to the project where you ran installation. Run the installer from another project to write that project's context file too.

To check recording, do a small task in Windsurf. Open the MemIndex viewer and look for notes from that project. Rerun installation to refresh its context rule file, then check that the file contains useful history.

This installer sets up capture and the rule file. It does not register a separate memory search server in Windsurf. Do not assume that seeing a search instruction in the rule file means search tools have been connected.

If Windsurf still shows only the placeholder after reinstalling, check that the local MemIndex service is running and that the task produced notes. See Troubleshooting.
