Muse Code

MemIndex records work from Muse Code. It brings relevant project notes into a new session. You can also ask Muse to search your memory.

Install Muse Code, make sure muse runs from your terminal, and sign in. Then run:

npx memindex@latest install --ide muse

Choose how MemIndex should write notes when the installer asks. See Install for the shared requirements and choices.

The installer adds MemIndex hooks and the memory search connection, mcp-search, to Muse's settings file: ~/.config/muse/settings.json, or $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/muse/settings.json when XDG_CONFIG_HOME is set. It keeps your other settings. Beside that file it writes .memindex-install.json, a record of exactly what it added; keep it, because updates and uninstall use it. A project's own .muse/hooks.json is left alone.

Start a new Muse session after installation and open /mcp to check that mcp-search is there. MemIndex records your prompts and each tool call, and asks for a summary at the end of a turn.

Ask Muse something specific, such as "What did we decide about the sign-in flow?" Check the MemIndex viewer after a small task to confirm that new notes appear, then start another session in the same project to see past notes arrive.

To inspect or remove the connection:

npx memindex muse status
npx memindex muse uninstall

If hooks or search are missing, check that Muse and the installer use the same XDG_CONFIG_HOME, run the install command again and restart Muse. If notes do not appear, use Troubleshooting.
