Cursor

MemIndex saves useful work from Cursor chats. It records shell commands, connected tool results and file edits. You can search the saved notes from later chats.

Set up

Install Cursor first. If you already have custom tasks in ~/.cursor/hooks.json, save a copy before setup. This installer replaces that file.

Run:

npx memindex install --ide cursor

This installs the automatic recording tasks for your user account. It also adds MemIndex's search tools to Cursor.

Restart Cursor. Open Settings → Hooks to check that the tasks loaded.

Use it

Work in a project as usual. Before each prompt, MemIndex starts recording for that chat. When the turn ends, it asks MemIndex to summarize the work.

Automatic past-work context in this setup is coming.

Ask Cursor to search MemIndex when you need a past decision:

Search MemIndex for the error we fixed in the upload page.

Check it

npx memindex status
npx memindex doctor

Run a shell command or edit a file in a Cursor chat. Let the turn finish. After MemIndex processes it, search for the work in a new chat.

If the installer reports that the search tools were not added, resolve that warning and rerun setup. Automatic recording and search are separate parts of the integration.
