Your agent
OpenClaw
MemIndex records OpenClaw prompts and tool results. It adds saved context to later requests without replacing your MEMORY.md file.
Set up
Install OpenClaw first. Then run:
npx memindex install --ide openclaw --runtime worker
npx memindex start
The installer adds the MemIndex extension and selects it as OpenClaw's memory plugin. Restart OpenClaw to load it.
Use it
Memory recording starts automatically. A tool result is limited to its first 1,000 characters before it is sent to MemIndex.
OpenClaw keeps a shared memory group named openclaw by default. Each named agent also has its own group. The context for that agent can include notes from both groups.
Use these commands inside OpenClaw:
/memindex_status
/memindex-search login error
/memindex-recent
/memindex-timeline login error
The search command finds notes. The timeline command shows nearby work around a match.
Change context settings
The MemIndex entry in ~/.openclaw/openclaw.json holds its settings.
Set syncMemoryFile to false to stop adding saved context to prompts. Despite its name, this setting does not control writes to MEMORY.md. Recording continues.
syncMemoryFileExclude turns off added context for selected agent IDs. It also leaves recording on.
Check it
Use /memindex_status to check the connection. Then do a small task with a tool call. Search for it after MemIndex processes the work.
This integration connects to a MemIndex worker. If OpenClaw runs in a container, set its workerHost and workerPort so it can reach that worker. OpenClaw must also be able to read that worker's worker-secret file from its MemIndex data folder. Use MEMINDEX_DATA_DIR to select that folder when it is mounted at a different path in the container. Host and port settings alone do not authorize recording.
