How MemIndex works

You build.
Your agents remember.

A brilliant little robot. A forgetful morning. And an owl with a notebook.

Meet Tock and Nib. Tock, the robot, is your AI coding agent: good at building, but starting each new session without the story of yesterday. Nib, the little owl, is MemIndex. Nib watches the work, saves the important parts, and brings back a small page when Tock starts again.

Follow their story in thirteen chapters, with pictures and films along the way. It is the same idea in your own workshop: keep what you learned, find it when you need it, and carry on from there.

  1. 1Capture

    You work.

Work with your agent as usual. MemIndex follows what happens, without making note-taking another job.

  2. 2Remember

    It remembers.

The important parts become short notes: what changed, what you decided, and what didn’t work.

  3. 3Recall

    You move forward.

Start a fresh session with the right context. Your agent can search further back whenever it needs to.

Chapter 01

Every Morning Is Day One

Tock is a brilliant builder robot who forgets everything overnight. Then he meets Nib, a little owl who takes notes.

55 seconds

The narration

This robot is a genius. And every single morning... he forgets everything.

Meet Tock. Tock builds amazing things. But every new day, he starts from zero.

He rereads every file. He asks the same questions. He even tries yesterday's broken idea again. Boom.

So Tock got a friend. This is Nib. Nib doesn't build. Nib just watches... and takes notes.

Not every little thing. Only the good stuff. The bug that got fixed. The choice that got made.

Next morning, Nib hands Tock one tiny page.

And Tock remembers. Right where he left off. Warm, and ready to go.

That's MemIndex. A memory for your A.I. coding agent. Private, and yours to run yourself.

Chapter 02

Tock's Three Bad Days

Forgetting costs your AI coding agent three things: time, money, and the reasons behind your code.

34 seconds

The narration

Forgetting costs Tock three things. And none of them are cheap.

First, time. Every morning he spends ages just catching up.

Second, money. Rereading every file costs coins. Lots of coins.

Third, and worst... the reasons. Why did he build it this way? Nobody wrote it down.

With Nib's notes, Tock gets all three back. Time saved. Coins saved. Reasons kept.

memindex.ai. Your agent remembers.

Chapter 03

Nib Says No

A good note-taker says no to almost everything. Nib only writes down the moments that matter.

25 seconds

The narration

Nib's secret? Nib says no. A lot.

Tock peeks at a file? Not worth a note.

Tock runs a quick check? Still no note.

But Tock fixes a nasty bug... Now that's worth writing down.

A notebook full of junk is no help at all. Nib keeps only the good stuff.

Chapter 04

What's on a Note?

A title, a few facts, a short story and a colour tag. That shape is what makes a memory easy to find.

26 seconds

The narration

What does Nib actually write down? Let's peek.

First, a short title. So the note is easy to spot later.

Then a few small facts. One thing per line.

Then the little story. What happened, and why it mattered.

And a colour tag. Bug fix. Decision. Discovery.

memindex.ai. Your agent remembers.

Chapter 05

One Tiny Page

Your agent doesn't need the whole notebook every morning. One tiny page of titles gets it started warm, for pennies.

28 seconds

The narration

Why doesn't Nib read Tock the whole notebook? Because it's huge.

Reading it all would take all morning, and cost a fortune.

So Nib writes one tiny page. Just the titles. Newest first.

Tock skims it in a second. And if a title looks useful, he asks for more.

Small page. Warm start. Tiny bill.

memindex.ai. Your agent remembers.

Chapter 06

The Big Drawer

Seen this bug before? Search your agent's past by what it was about, not by date.

25 seconds

The narration

Tock has seen this bug before. But when?

Months ago? That page is long gone from the morning list.

So Tock asks Nib to search. Not by date. By what it was about.

Nib finds it in a blink. The fix, and why it worked.

Old problem. Same fix. No need to learn it twice.

memindex.ai. Your agent remembers.

Chapter 07

Nib Plays Dress-Up

Same note-taker, new hat: notes from meetings, whiteboard photos and long chats, not just code.

28 seconds

The narration

Nib doesn't only take notes on building. Nib can play dress-up.

At a meeting, Nib writes down who decided what.

With a painter's beret, Nib turns a messy whiteboard into tidy notes.

In a detective hat, Nib reads a long chat and finds what matters.

Same Nib. New hat. Any kind of work, tidy notes out.

Chapter 08

Blocks in the Workshop

For builders: the timeline, search and live triggers are blocks you can build your own tools from.

25 seconds

The narration

Here's a secret for builders. Nib's notes are building blocks.

The timeline block. Show what happened, in order.

The search block. Find any old note in a flash.

The trigger block. Do something the moment Nib writes a note.

Stack them your way. Build the tool you always wanted.

memindex.ai. Your agent remembers.

Chapter 09

Works With Your Agent

Works with the coding agents you already use, with more on the way. One notebook for every builder.

24 seconds

The narration

Tock isn't the only builder robot in town.

Some builders are tall. Some are speedy. Each one forgets overnight.

Good news. Nib gets along with all of them.

One notebook. Every builder. Their notes stay in one place.

Works with the coding agents you already use. And more on the way.

memindex.ai. Your agent remembers.

Chapter 10

Nib Moves to the Cloud

Run it yourself, or let us host it. 30-day trial, plans from $30 a month.

26 seconds

The narration

Nib can live right here, in Tock's workshop.

But some builders don't want to look after a nest.

So Nib can move to the cloud. A soft little home up high, looked after for you.

Tock still gets his tiny page every morning. Wherever he is.

Start a thirty-day trial. Plans from thirty dollars a month.

Chapter 11

The Wave

When a long session fills up, Claude Code squeezes the day into a few lines. Endless Mode hands your agent the whole story back.

43 seconds

The narration

Tock has been building all day. The plan, every try, every fix.

But a conversation can only hold so much. And then... here comes the wave.

Claude Code squeezes the whole day into a few short lines.

Tock looks around. Wait. What was I doing?

The plan is gone. The reasons are gone. He starts reading every file again, from the top.

But Nib was writing the whole time. Every word, and a short note for every job.

So Nib rolls it all up in a bottle, and hands it to Tock.

Tock reads it first, and picks up right where he left off.

memindex.ai. Your agent remembers.

Chapter 12

Message in a Bottle

Inside the bottle: what you asked, word for word, what your agent said back, and one short note for every job.

41 seconds

The narration

What's inside Nib's bottle? The whole day, in order.

What you asked, word for word. And what Tock said back.

The noisy work, all the tools and files, becomes one short note each.

So a long, long day fits in one small roll.

And Nib never puts words in Tock's mouth. If Tock didn't say it, it isn't written as his.

When it's a big one, Tock reads the end first, and looks back only when he needs to.

He already said his last words once. So he doesn't say them again.

He doesn't redo finished work. He just keeps going.

memindex.ai. Your agent remembers.

Chapter 13

Clear Means Forget

Type /clear and your agent starts fresh. Endless Mode files the old session away instead of handing it back.

38 seconds

The narration

Sometimes Tock wants a fresh start. A brand new job.

Because sometimes, remembering everything is not what you want.

So he types /clear. That means: forget this one.

Nib doesn't hand him a bottle this time.

He tucks it away in the archive instead. Safe, but out of the way.

Tock starts fresh, with just his tiny morning page.

And if a bottle can't be made? Tock starts the usual way. Nothing breaks.

You decide when to keep going, and when to start fresh.
