Your agent

Codex CLI

MemIndex records Codex CLI work and brings useful notes into later sessions. It also gives Codex tools to search saved memory.

Set up

Install Codex CLI first. Then run:

npx memindex install --ide codex-cli

The installer checks whether Codex supports the plugin system. If it asks you to update Codex, update it and run the command again.

Open Codex CLI in your project. Review and trust the MemIndex hooks when Codex asks. These are the small tasks Codex runs when sessions or subagents start, prompts arrive, tools run, or work finishes.

Restart any sessions that were open before you trusted the hooks.

Use it

Use Codex as usual. MemIndex receives prompts and tool results. It saves notes about the work and adds recent context to later sessions.

Ask Codex to search MemIndex before repeating an investigation. For example:

Find the notes about the last database migration.

The Codex agent and the service that writes MemIndex notes are separate choices. You can use Codex without choosing it to write the notes during setup.

Check it

npx memindex status
npx memindex doctor

Make a small change or run a tool in Codex. After MemIndex processes the work, ask Codex to find it. Use a fresh session to check that startup memory appears.

If search works but automatic recording does not, check that you trusted the hooks and restarted the session. See Troubleshooting.

See Install for shared setup and Privacy for what is recorded.
